Features

Built for working on one scene together.

Everything on this page is in the current plugin (version 0.14.6). Where a feature depends on the plan, it says so.

Sessions

Parties: create, share, approve.

A party is one shared session. The host's scene is the starting point, and everyone who joins receives it.

  • Create a party with a name and an optional password; it gets a Party ID such as SFM-K7Q2XM to share.
  • Join with the Party ID (and the password, if there is one). The host sees each request and accepts it with a role, or declines it.
  • The plan of the host sets the size: up to 2 players on Basic, 8 on Pro and 16 on Creator.
  • The host can change roles at any time, remove a player, or close the party.
  • Parties can be listed in the plugin's community list, or kept private.
  • Repeated wrong passwords or Party IDs are limited, so a party cannot be guessed open.
Roles and permissions

Everyone gets the job they came for.

Each role is a set of permissions. They are checked on the server, so a change a role does not allow is refused even if a player tries to send it.

Basic parties use the Viewer, Animator and Editor roles. Pro and Creator parties use every role and can adjust permissions per person. Creator hosts can also define up to 8 roles of their own.

  • DirectorEverything except managing the party.
  • EditorEdits the whole scene; saving stays with the host.
  • AnimatorSelects, moves and keys models; changes frames.
  • Model EditorAdds, removes, selects and moves models.
  • Lighting ArtistAdds, removes and adjusts lights.
  • Particle ArtistAdds, edits and removes particle systems.
  • Camera OperatorCreates and controls cameras; changes frames.
  • ViewerWatches the scene; changes nothing.
Animation

A shared timeline that keeps up.

Edits are sent while you work and applied for everyone, including several people in the Motion Editor and Graph Editor at once.

  • Keyframes, transforms, face sliders and bone scale stay in sync.
  • Models, lights, cameras and particles that are added, removed or renamed appear for everyone.
  • Nothing is written into your SFM while you are dragging; other people's edits arrive when you let go.
  • When two people edit the same control at the same moment, everyone ends up with the same result.
  • A model someone else is editing is highlighted in their colour (can be turned off).
  • Everyone's camera is shown in the viewport with a name tag, and you can jump to the frame another player is on.
  • Notes can be pinned in the 3D view for the whole party.
Models, lights and particles

Custom content comes along.

When a scene uses a model, material, particle or sound that another player does not have, Multi-SFM offers to transfer it from the player who has it.

  • Each player is asked before anything is downloaded (or chooses to always accept).
  • Files only go into SFM's own usermod folder, only under models, materials, particles and sound, and never replace a file you already have.
  • Files are checked before they are installed; a file that is not what its name says is rejected.
  • The host can turn file sharing off for the whole party.
  • Model editing, lighting and particle changes each need their own permission (see roles).
Communication

Talk without leaving SFM.

The plugin includes the social side a team needs, so the conversation stays next to the work.

  • Party chat with pictures.
  • Voice chat in parties hosted on Creator; everyone in such a party can talk. Uses Windows' own audio.
  • Friends, private messages and group chats.
  • Community servers with text channels and invite codes.
  • Each player's ping and, on Creator, SFM memory use are shown on their card.
  • The plugin is available in English, Turkish, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, German, French and Polish.
Safety and privacy

Private by design.

Players connect to the Multi-SFM server, never to each other.

  • The connection is encrypted, and the plugin checks the server's certificate against the one it ships with.
  • No player sees another player's IP address.
  • A license key is tied to one computer; the computer ID is a one-way hash, never the raw value.
  • Anyone can report a user with a right click; moderators can suspend or ban.
